Sojourners Calls for Ceasefire in Israel and Palestine
Washington, D.C. — In response to Israel formally declaring war after attacks by Hamas, Sojourners released the following statement:
“The horrific and escalating violence in Israel and Gaza breaks the heart of God. As followers of the Prince of Peace we call for an immediate ceasefire and for a cessation of violence. We condemn Hamas' attack on Israel, which is a horrific act of terrorism. We condemn all acts of violence and human rights violations against civilians. We know that forging a lasting peace will require addressing the long-delayed cause of justice for Palestinians. All actions that postpone substantive political advances undermine the legitimate aspirations of Israelis and Palestinians to determine their futures together,” said Rev. Adam Russell Taylor, President of Sojourners.
Sojourners reiterates its consistent call for a negotiated, just, and peaceful resolution to the conflict that advances security and self-determination for Israelis and Palestinians. Sojourners calls on all peacemakers to pray for those who are mourning, support those attending the injured, and act courageously for peace.
