White supremacists marched in Charlottesville over the weekend. In counter-protest, dozens of faith leaders did, too.
As rally participants wearing swastikas and carrying torches gathered on the University of Virginia campus on Friday night, clergy led a worship service nearby at St. Paul’s Memorial Church. And early Saturday morning, after a dawn prayer gathering at First Baptist Church, dozens of clergy marched in silent protest of the presence of white supremacists, white nationalists, and neo-Nazis.
The multi-faith group led songs and communal prayer and insistently denounced white supremacy, hatred, and systemic racism. Photographer Heather Wilson accompanied the faith leaders from the Friday night worship service to the streets of Charlottesville.
