Miriam Tellez (she/her/ella) is the mobilizing and policy assistant at Sojourners. She embarked on a transformative journey, moving 2,296 miles from her beloved hometown of Pasadena, Calif., to fully dedicate herself to advancing social and racial justice through faith-driven action.
She holds a B.A. in sociology from California State University, Fullerton, and brings diverse professional experience from higher education, congressional work, and the nonprofit sector. Miriam is passionate about fostering communities where everyone feels they belong and committed to revolutionary optimism and equity. As a queer DACAmented individual and first-generation university graduate, she channels her passion into advocating for immigration and human rights on both local and global scales.
Outside of work, Miriam immerses herself in culture, creativity, and community. Her Mexican heritage connects her to live music and, most joyfully, the dance floor. She currently revels in salsa and bachata and is excited to share her dance moves with any adventurous learners. Eager to dive into D.C.’s vibrant culture, Miriam looks forward to forging meaningful connections with the Sojourners team and its partners as she begins this new chapter.
