Cry War Cry Peace

Tears of war
Fears
of war
Leers of war
What shall war gain
except death and pain
Sadness, darkness, helpless
Thunder-rain!
Pouring down on enemies
many of other countries
Bombs, guns, knives
Chilly lives
For those who feel
deep within
Win or lose
Do not let war choose
Your wish for peace

Jessie Heller was 8 years old and lived in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, when this poem appeared.. This poem was inspired by her grief of war and hope for peace.
