Rabiye Kurnaz (center), mother of German Guantanamo Bay detainee Murat Kurnaz, came to Washington, D.C., in March to join British and French families of detainees who shared stories of anguish over the treatment of their relatives. "Can the U.S. government legitimately claim that the continuing imprisonment of the detainees at Guantanamo without charge, without access to legal counsel, without access to family visits, and without access to international due process, is just?" asked Rev. Robert Edgar, general secretary of the National Council of Churches USA, the hosting organization. Actors Vanessa Redgrave (left) and Corin Redgrave (back), co-founders of the British-based Guantanamo Human Rights Commission, accompanied the families.
