IT WAS GREAT to read your articles about the resurgence of the nuclear disarmament movement in the January-February 1999 issue. Your readers should know of two important events happening this year that will advance the abolition movement into the new millennium. "The Hague Appeal for Peace" is an end-of-the-century civil society conference in The Hague, Netherlands, May 11-15, 1999. The major focus of the conference is disarmament, demilitarization, and nuclear abolition (see "Connections," page 44.)
Here in the United States, the Nevada Desert Experience is organizing "Millennium 2000: Walking the Ways of Peace" on December 29, 1999-January 2, 2000. There will be a wide range of presenters, experiences, and workshops for mind, body, and spirit. At midnight on New Year's Eve, more than 1,000 people will join in a candlelight procession onto the Nevada Nuclear Test Site. We invite all people of conscience to ring in the millennium with hope, prayer, and action toward the complete abolition of nuclear weapons.
