Welfare Watchdogs
The Welfare Watchdogs and the American Friends Service Committee have produced a game kit designed to educate churches and community organizations about who really benefits from welfare. As the games reveal, large corporations are the biggest beneficiaries of government assistance. The games are designed to use facts and humor to correct public misperceptions about welfare recipients. The game kit sells for $15 and includes a series of skits and activities with scripts and background information. Resources for Kids
Viva!, a children's education project of the Mennonite Central Committee, has produced a learning and activity box designed to acquaint North American children with faces, stories, crafts, games, songs, and recipes of children of Bolivia, Brazil, El Salvador, Haiti, and Mexico. Teachers' guides for each country provide ideas adaptable for grades one through seven, for use in Sunday schools, vacation Bible schools, classrooms, and cross-cultural fairs. The guides explore issues vital to children in these countries, such as caring for creation, child labor, debt, and conflict resolution. A map, music cassettes, storybook, and two videos are included.
