I strongly object to Reta Halteman Finger’s use of “bipolar” to describe the apostle Paul (“Can Paul Be Redeemed?” February 2014). Bipolar, short for Bipolar Affective Disorder, is a medical term that should be restricted to use by medical providers of psychiatric care. It is a no-fault, severe, and persistent brain disorder that can destroy a person’s life. Although it is treatable, many individuals go untreated because of the stigma and discrimination associated with it.
