5.24-25.22 - In solidarity with the nonviolence movement in Ukraine, a high-level delegation of religious leaders will travel to Kyiv in an emergency intervention seeking to contribute to stopping the aggression and bombing in Ukraine and to pray for an immediate ceasefire and a just peace. 

5.12.22 - In response to the leaked draft of the Supreme Court opinion in the Dobbs v. Jackson case that directly overturns Roe v. Wade, Sojourners released the following statement.

3.1.22 - Tonight’s State of the Union Address was President Biden’s opportunity to articulate a path towards Beloved Community where life is honored and dignified, and the power of relationships is sacred.  The speech outlined a vision for a truly democratic society where people are no longer separated based on where they live, what they look like, how they pray, and who they vote for but come together based on a love for the common good.

2.25.22 - Sojourners applauds President Biden’s nomination of U.S. Circuit Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to serve as the 104th associate justice of the United States Supreme Court.

2.24.22 - Sojourners unequivocally condemns the Russian government’s unjustified attacks on its neighbor Ukraine. Every nation has the right to self-determination and the right to live in peace alongside its neighbors —rights that President Vladimir Putin has recklessly violated. Sojourners also condemns in the strongest possible terms Putin's veiled threat to use nuclear weapons.

2.14.22 - Today, a “call to conscience on climate” from 80 national, state, and local faith leaders and organizations was delivered to President Biden and Senator Schumer. The letter calls for the president, Leader Schumer, and the U.S. Senate to act with conviction and courage and not to delay enacting the Build Back Better Act which will protect our climate and put our nation on the path of climate justice, environmental justice, and intergenerational justice.

1.11.22 - Sojourners applauds President Biden’s vocal, forceful support of changing the Senate rules to ensure critical voting rights and pro-democracy legislation can move forward. Sojourners calls on the Senate to heed the urgency expressed by the President in his speech in Atlanta today and act to strengthen our democracy.

12.20.21 - In reaction to Sen. Joe Manchin’s (D-W.Va.) weekend announcement withdrawing his support for President Biden's Build Back Better legislation, Sojourners President Adam Taylor said the following.

12.13.21 - Sojourners has joined 114 other faith-based organizations, representing five world faith traditions, in signing a letter which calls on World Trade Organization member countries to act before year’s end to waive Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights rules. This would increase access to COVID vaccines and treatments globally, a moral necessity.

This bill includes historic investments that will ensure the most needy and vulnerable receive the care and support they deserve. As people of faith, we now call on the Senate to prioritize passing this historic legislation and retain or strengthen provisions that benefit our families and communities.

As people of faith, we call for the full passage of this bill. Investing in healthcare, education, creation care, housing, and nutrition are all faith imperatives and civic virtues.

11.3.21 - The Senate’s inability to vote for a cloture motion for the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2021 (S. 4) is an infringement on the freedom to vote for millions of their own fellow citizens.

10.21.21 - Suppressing the right to vote is a direct assault on both our civic equality and our Christian conviction that all people are made in the image of God.

10.19.21 - On Wednesday, October 20, the Washington Interfaith Staff Community (WISC) will host a 12-hour prayer vigil on Capitol Hill from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET to urge Congress to pass a robust Build Back Better package that aligns with the moral groundings of so many faith traditions.

10.18.21 - As President Biden and world leaders prepare to travel to Glasgow, Scotland for the Conference of Parties (COP), two dozen clergy and faith leaders representing diverse faith traditions gathered outside the State Department to read from and hand deliver a copy of Faith and Science: An Appeal for COP26, a recently-released multifaith climate action Appeal led by His Holiness Pope Francis. 

9.30.21 - In response to the toxic polarization gripping many parts of the country, Sojourners has developed a new curriculum to encourage civil conversation in places of worship, a major facet of American life. Titled “Politically Divided Congregations: A Curriculum for Reconciliation and Transformation,” the 53-page resource includes conversation questions, prayers, and scripture passages meant to deepen participants’ understanding of the biblical call to justice.

9.20.21 - On Friday we marked the anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution. On Monday we see another example of how “We the People” still doesn’t include all the people. It doesn’t include the undocumented farmworkers who kept harvesting food to make sure our families are fed. It doesn’t include the immigrants with TPS and DACA who are COVID frontline workers helping to keep our families alive. It doesn’t include the caregivers who watch over our families daily.
